Mahindra Introduces XEV 9e Pack Two at a Lower Price Point

In a strategic move aimed at widening its electric vehicle (EV) customer base, Mahindra has launched the new Pack Two variant of the XEV 9e. The new variant retains the full-size SUV appeal of its predecessors but comes at a significantly lower price, starting around ₹25 lakh for the 59 kWh battery pack and ₹27 lakh for the 79 kWh variant (with home charger). The aim is to make Mahindra’s flagship EV more accessible without compromising core functionality and road presence.

What’s New in XEV 9e Pack Two? Subtle Yet Smart Cost Optimizations

While the Pack Two variant retains much of the original XEV 9e’s exterior design, cabin experience, and safety features, Mahindra has intelligently trimmed some non-essential components to reduce costs. Here’s a look at the changes:

  • Exterior Styling: The bold connected LED DRLs and aggressive SUV stance remain unchanged. Road presence is still commanding.
  • ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System): Level 2 ADAS is retained, but with only 10 core features optimized for Indian roads.
  • Alloy Wheels Replaced with Aero Covers: The visually premium alloy wheels have been replaced with steel wheels covered by aerodynamic plastic caps, which closely mimic the appearance of alloys.
  • Manual Tailgate: The electronic tailgate has been swapped for a spring-loaded manual version—a cost-effective but practical change.
  • Interior Fabric: The cabin now features premium hybrid fabric upholstery, made using recycled plastic bottles. While stylish and eco-conscious, it’s more susceptible to stains compared to leatherette.
  • Removal of Vanity Mirror (Driver Side): The sun visor mirror has been removed for the driver side, while retained for passengers.

Interior & Features: Premium Cabin with Smart Reductions

Despite being a more affordable variant, the Pack Two maintains Mahindra’s signature luxury feel inside the cabin.

  • Triple Display Layout: The three-screen dashboard layout remains, including the digital cluster, infotainment, and passenger display.
  • Wireless Charging, USB Type-C Ports: Practical features like 65W fast-charging ports, wireless charger, and USB Type-C slots have been retained.
  • Touch to Physical Button Shift: Mahindra replaced capacitive touch buttons with tactile physical buttons, enhancing ease of use and reducing accidental touches.
  • Entertainment Screen Mirroring: An app-based feature now allows screen mirroring from phones or tablets to the center display for the co-passenger.
  • Sound System: A woofer system and premium speakers are still part of the Pack Two package, ensuring immersive audio experience.
  • Cold Glovebox Air Vent: The Pack Two includes air-conditioned storage for small items—another practical, user-focused decision.

EV Performance: Range and Power Figures Remain Competitive

There’s no compromise on performance. The 79 kWh variant delivers 281 HP, while the 59 kWh version produces 227 HP. Claimed range figures are:

  • 500 km (79 kWh variant)
  • 400 km (59 kWh variant)

However, real-world range may vary based on driving style and regenerative braking usage.

Final Thoughts: Practical, Premium, and Purpose-Built

The Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two is designed for buyers who want premium size and performance but can compromise on luxury features like ambient lighting, vanity mirrors, and powered tailgates. With core design, safety, and digital experience untouched, Pack Two represents a smart, value-driven choice for professionals and families alike.

By focusing on practicality without sacrificing character, Mahindra strengthens its EV offering in India’s rapidly growing electric SUV segment.
